Assisting in end-of-service life eco-design

We provide assistance to producers in the eco-design of their projects and help them to improve and better design the equipment that they manufacture in order to ensure a more environment-friendly end-of-service life. for eco-design.

Developing and improving the purpose-built eco-design platform

In 2018 a platform for producers had already been incorporated into ecosystem’s internet site. It enables appliances to be improved and better designed for a more environmentally-friendly end-of-service life. It is freely accessible here.

This platform contains regularly updated written content and videos for a better understanding of how recycling works. Tools and media are made available to producers to assist them in their eco-design activities (best practice information sheets, LCI data, REEECYC’LAB) as well as making it easier to access different documentary resources and information on regulations and standards that are of interest for eco-design.

New REEECYC’LAB software developments

In 2020 the REEECYC’LAB tool underwent a few improvements. Indeed, its graphic design charter was updated and an alternative calculation implemented. When information on loads and surface treatment processes are not entered (worst case scenario method), the main method to calculate recyclability remains unchanged (displayed at the top of the Results page). Other functionalities have also been updated (debugging, sending of mails after the enabling or disabling the delegating system, optimisation operations, etc.)

Assisting producers

The assistance provided to the household WEEE, professional WEEE and lamp sectors continues and is expanding with the questions raised by producers and in regards to the embracing of our tools.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 health crisis we could not physically meet with our producers. However, two days of meetings and site visits on eco-design visits were able to take place (one on-site and one virtually). The topics covered were as follows:

• Recycling and eco-design of small household appliances

• Recycling of circuit boards and precious/critical metals and the possibility of reincorporating these metals into new products.

In partnership with Pôle eco-conception we also launched a cycle of webinars on eco-design and participated in a webinar organised by AURA entreprises on the eco-design of plastic and electronic products in order to clarify the challenges of their end-of-service life and the recyclability of plastics.
